69481 1953-10-10 Kensington Olympia

69481 1953-10-10 Kensington Olympia

There is a nice display of early 1950s cars in the background as ex-GNR ‘N1’ 0-6-2T 69481 waits at Kensington Olympia while working the RCTS London Branch Marylebone to Broad Street rail tour on 10th October 1953. It had travelled via the Wembley Exhibition Loop to Acton and then the Greenford loop and Perivale to White City. It continued as far as Farringdon via Battersea Yard (reverse), Loughborough Junction and Holborn Viaduct (Low Level). The final stage to Broad Street used LM and SR engines. In order to accommodate over 400 participants, two trains each of five coaches had to be provided from Marylebone to Farringdon with another ‘N1’, 69441, on the first train and 69481 on the second.
