EMU 2618 1958-09-01 Shortlands

SR 2-HAL EMU No 2618 passes Shortlands, next stop Bromley on September 1st 1958. This is a Maidstone East/Gillingham service formed of 4 x 2HAL EMUs. These did not stop at Shortlands but were non-stop to Bromley South then Swanley where they divided and then called at all stations to their respective destinations. Headcode 94 indicated the Maidstone portion is at the front - the Gillingham portion displayed headcode 90 from Swanley. Note the second 2 HAL unit is an all steel post WW2 unit.

After the Kent Coast Phase 1 elecfication in June 1959 2HAPs were used and the Gillingham portion was extended to Sheerness - on - Sea and became normally the front portion as far as Swanley.

The chimney is part of the Water Works pump house and is still there.
