Class 46 No.170 passing the site of Exminster station with an Exeter bound express on 8th June 1974. The Gateshead allocated Peak was renumbered as No.46033 in 1974 and was withdrawn in 1981, reinstated three months later and finally taken out of service in 1983. The station which closed in March 1964 was the first to succumb in the area under the Beeching Plan. The station formerly had two island platforms, and after closure the lines were retained as Up and Down Goods loops, the signal box on the Down side was retained to control the loops.
