60035 1961 Edinburgh Waverley Pullman-ROneg-019

On "The Queen of Scots" Pullman from Glasgow Queen Street- Kings Cross via Leeds

60035 " Windsor Lad " drifts through Princes Gardens and the splendid approach to Edinburgh's Waverley with a rake of Pullman tock behind the tender in this overhead view fom 1961.
Named after a renowned racehorse , as so many of Sir Nigel's original " A 1 's " were , " Windsor Lad " was the first of the third batch of newly built members of her class , emerging from Doncaster as number 2500 in 1934 , eight being constructed there that same year with the last , 2508 " Brown Jack " following a year later in 1935.
" Windsor Lad " lasted in service until September of 1961 and it seems extraordinary that just one of her class , namely " Flying Scotsman " survived into preservation .
