Gresley K3 2-6-0 No.61808 was only at Colwick from late-December 1957 to June 1959 and given that she had a general overhaul at Doncaster Works from March 1959, this photograph is likely to have been taken in the summer of 1958 as she approaches West Hallam. The long excursion train is of ex-LNER stock, a couple of which are in maroon livery, and is running with 'Express Passenger' headlamps, rather optimistically as it would be several hours before the trippers reached their east coast resort.
