S&DJR 7F 2-8-0 No 53801 with a northbound goods running down Corfe Mullen Bank, just NW of Ashington Bridge Br. 238 (back round the bend a few hundred yards) at Happy Bottom on June 22, 1960.
Ashington Cutting ends roughly below the lone house standing on the horizon, above the line on Ashington Lane at right. There was a footpath crossing at the toe of the cutting here. Culvert Br.237 is close to the loco. The vegetation changes briefly to open heathland, as seen by the bracken at left, before reaching Happy Bottom accommodation crossing and entering the cutting leading to Lamb's Green Bridge. This location is fairly remote from public roads, so David H-S had probably ventured onto the track formation.

Peter Kerslake says "A lightweight freight for 53801, one of the initial six built at Derby in 1914 and designed specifically for use on the Somerset and Dorset.
Corfe Mullen was at the extreme southern end of the Somerset and Dorset line with the stretch of single track seen in this view extending down to Broadstone, the line thereafter continuing southwards from Broadstone and reverting to double track down through Poole and to Bournemouth West over Southern Region tracks.
