Ex-London & North Western Railway Webb 'Renewed Precedent' class 2-4-0 No. 5018 'Talavera'. Built at Crewe in February 1890 as L&NWR No. 1672 and withdrawn in September 1932.

A lovely Victorian veteran peers from under the train shed at the south end of Rugby station in March 1932. Looking remarkably well cared-for, nonetheless it only has another eighteen months to serve before withdrawal. 'Talavera' was named after a village, 120km. SW of Madrid where a 2-day battle was fought by an English, German and Spanish army beating Napoleonic French forces in the Peninular War of 1809.
