Early in the new year 1959, 21 LT&SR locos were reported withdrawn at Plaistow shed, most of these were towed north. Their destination would have been Crewe but the works couldn’t accept them and they were dumped on the disused Over & Wharton branch near the West Coast Main Line at Winsford eight miles north of Crewe. They were soon joined by 14 LNWR Super D 0-8-0s
