A pair of ex-LNWR 'Super Ds'. Nos. 49268 and 49007, head south for their home shed Springs Branch through Wigan North Western station on the Up Fast line on 1st June 1957. The signal box in the distance is Wigan No.2, a wartime brick structure, housing a 65-lever frame situated between the Down Main and the line to the small carriage sidings.
