The ex-L&NWR Beames 'G2' and 'G2A' 0-8-0s were sturdy and reliable machines, the latest in a long line of 0-8-0s developed by Crewe that dated back to Webb's 1892 'D' class. Most of these types had long lives, with many being rebuilt several times to incorporate updated features and lasting well into the 1960s. 'G2' 49412 has just received a perodic overhaul and a lick of fresh paint at Crewe Works and is waiting to return 'home' to Edge Hill MPD in Liverpool. Photo dated June 1956.
