Ex-L&NWR ‘G2’ 0-8-0 No. 49378 on “enemy” territory at Wigan L&YR shed in the summer of 1959. It was a Springs Branch engine throughout the 1950s until officially withdrawn in November 1959, having been in store for some time. The L&YR shed had ample space as work had been concentrated on L&NWR Springs Branch since the 1930s, allowing the former to be used to store several surplus L&NWR 'Super D's' in the late 1950s.
