D1000 1963-10-06 Swindon Works
Situated within the Swindon Works complex the Dump was a place not to be missed by any enthusiast during their tour of the Works , provided that the mandatory Works Guide , invariably a retired railwayman , could be persuaded to include it in his well planned route , but they were usually amenable, and a collection of small change at the end was often the way of showing appreciation . In this view from the late days of Western steam there is a mixed bag of attractions to be captured on film , including the pioneer Western Diesel in the shape of D 1000 Western Enterprise together with one of its sisters and a Warship as well . The usual mixed bag of condemned steam locomotives include a Castle and a variety of Western tank engines all awaiting the cutters' torches , their last miles run.
