The 1H51 working approaches Derby with a Western in charge around 1971-72. The black patch around the lower marker light might help identify this Western - it looks like it has a shortish name. Could be D1069 as it has an unmatched unpainted repair at the bottom corner of the cab and D1069 had a weld here until the end.

In 1971 there was a regular 1M52 9.40 Bristol-Derby summer Saturday relief which was booked for a class 52, returning as 13.15 to Paignton. The service terminated at Derby and then formed a return working back to the WR as the 1V88 13.15 Derby - Paignton. It frequently arrived with a Class 47, but on some days we were lucky!
