D1010 1964-06 Plymouth
Peter Kerslake says " Showing her fine lines to advantage D1010 "Western Campaigner" is here at Plymouth North Road's platform seven at the head of a working to Paddington in 1964 when the "Westerns" were to be spread over a number of Depots, including here at Laira, Old Oak Common, Wolverhampton's Oxley and Swansea's Landore.
D1010 was one of the thirty "Westerns" built at Swindon, the second to be allocated to Old Oak Common, and she lasted until late February of 1977 which was the final year for the class with just seven left at work at the start of 1977, that figure being reduced to the last four by that February, all of which were then condemned with three of that four, including "Western Campaigner" seen here escaping being cut up and making it into preservation.
"Western Campaigner" has been based at the West Somerset Railway at Bishop's Lydeard since preservataion."
