Arguably the two best looking diesel designs produced by British Railways, both the 'Westerns' and 'Hymeks' benefitted from the input from external design consultants to transform what could otherwise have been a dull box-like shape into distinctive and stylish locomotives. Pictured on shed at Swindon on 8 June 1969, No.D1014 Western Leviathan would remain in maroon until May 1970 while No.D7005 kept this green livery until withdrawn in July 1972.
