RSH 7151 1958-05-14 Hams Hall No9

Hams Hall had a large CEGB generating station. Situated in a spacious site between the Water Orton to Tamworth and Water Orton to Whitacre Junction lines it was built in 1928 it was quoted as burning approximately 774,000 tonnes of coal a year – much of it pulverised coal and all of it coming by rail. Here a fleet of powerful 18” 0-6-0T’s provided by Robert Stephenson & Hawthorn were employed up to the mid 1970s. No.9, Works No.7151 of 1944 is seen here on 14th May 1958 with the cooling towers of Hams Hall ‘B’ in the background.
