The short bay 'Platform 3' was situated at the south end of Wellingborough Midland Road station between the Down Goods and Up Main lines. On 27th August 1960 BR 2MT 2-6-2T No.84008 is on the shuttle service to Northampton. The tank had been transferred from Burton-on-Trent the previous year in exchange for an Ivatt 2-6-2T and stayed at Wellingborough until June 1961.
