In December 1961 seventeen of Bedford's two car DMUs were temporarily withdrawn from service and No.84005 was one of several tank engines which took over the Hitchin and Northampton branch workings from Bedford. It is pictured with its two auto coaches at Midland Road station on 31st December, which was the last day of the Hitchin service.
