No.6023 Sir Charles Cust was one of the last batch of Claughtons, entering service in May 1921 as L&NWR No.207. It was fitted with Caprotti valve gear, narrow ring piston-valves and a G9½S boiler in August 1928, and remained in service until July 1941. The chimney and dome had to be reduced in height to avoid fouling the loading gauge because the boiler was 3½in. larger in diameter than the original boiler.
