The Scott 4-4-0s were in their day, the express passenger engines built for elite duties on the North British Railway. A few were based in Glasgow at Eastfield but the majority of the 27 engines at Grouping were to be found in the East of Scotland at Edinburgh, Dundee, Thornton and Perth.

Most were at Edinburgh including No 415 Claverhouse which was allocated to Haymarket from new in June 1914 until transferred across the city to St. Margarets in June 1943 where she continued to work, latterly as BR No 62424 until withdrawn from service in August 1957.
