A few days after completing a Heavy Intermediate repair, Birkenhead’s 42804 on shed at St. Rollox on 16 August 1961. Its lined black livery is completed by large 10in cab numbers with the 5MT above, and a black smokebox plate making the numbers almost invisible. 42804 was withdrawn at the end of 1962.
