42812 1960s Willesden

42812 1960s Willesden

Still shiny from a HG recently completed in September 1960, 42812 at its home shed, Willesden, where it had been allocated since May 1947. It was one of the Crabs fitted with Hudd AWS in 1947 for operating over the London Tilbury & Southend lines but this had been replaced by the BR standard AWS in March 1960. 42812 has single air relief valves and stirrup pattern footsteps, and 8in Gill Sans cab numbers with a 5 power classification above. The shed staff have taken the opportunity to fill the tender with as much coal as possible, using the additional coal rails to the full.
