42798 1960s Wakefield

42798 1960s Wakefield

A careworn 42798 at Wakefield near the end of its days. It was stored serviceable for over a year, from September 1962 until November 1963 when it was finally withdrawn. AWS had been fitted to the Holbeck engine in November 1960, but 42798 still has its original twin air relief valves. The coal railed tender has its tank vents at the rear of the coalspace and it has stirrup pattern footsteps.
