In plain black with 8in cab numbers and the 5MT below, 42744 in typical early-1950s condition with twin air relief valves, original buffers, and turned up footsteps. It was shedded at Hurlford from October 1949 onwards, and after storage from August 1962 it went to Irvine as a stationary boiler on 15 December before formal withdrawal at the end of the year.
