‘Crab’ 2-6-0 No.42710 from Burton shed heads east through Bromford Bridge station in 1958 with a Class 5 freight which has four Shoc Opens at the head. It had been a Newton Heath engine since it was built at Horwich as No.13010 in 1927. The picture dates between October 1961 when AWS was fitted and its transfer to Gorton in July 1963. The works visible in the right background was part of large the Bromford Tube Company site which had its own sidings alongside the main line. The elevated section of the M6 motorway now runs overhead.
