LMS Crab 2-6-0 No 42789 with ECS westbound for Mirfield etc at Ravensthorpe in the mid-1950s.The Farnley Junction ‘Crab’ 42789 has just left ex-LNWR metals and joined the ex-L&YR Calder valley route at Ravensthorpe Junction, located immediately beyond the distant bridge. The chimneys and cooling towers of Ravensthorpe (a/k/a Thornhill) Power Station loom above the exhaust and the premises of Newlay Concrete, a ‘breeze block’ manufacturer are atop the left embankment.
