42770 1960s York Chaloners Whin
Leaving York's suburbs and heading south, 42770 has already passed Dringhouses and is approaching Chaloners Whin where the Selby route diverges from the Leeds lines. The three youngsters and the distinctive old NER quarter mile post help make this 1960s scene complete. This location brings back many happy memories because this was my pre-teen 'stamping ground', my grandparents lived nearby. 42770 was built at Crewe in July 1927 as LMS 13070 and was withdrawn in November 1963.
