42818 1961c Buxton
Not the best of images but an interesting locomotive. No 42818 seen c. 1961 at Buxton, on the road next to the turntable, the point to the right was to allow tank engines to reverse without using the turntable.
This was one of five ‘Crabs’ rebuilt in 1931 with Lentz poppet valves and rebuilt again in 1953 with Reidinger poppet valve gear. (The others being Nos 42822/4/5/9.)
All five were shedded at Burton (for ease of maintenance) and withdrawn between May and July 1962.
