Signalbox 1962-09-15 Gwaen-Cae-Gurwen
Gwaen-Cae-Gurwen signalbox from SLS Special on 15 September 1962. A simple solution to a name longer than the box allows.
Note that this is "Midland Box" and is located at Cwmllynfell on the Midland branch from Swansea St Thomas to Brynamman East. (The view is looking towards Brynamman). The name refers to the colliery which was on a branch from here. Not to be confused with the GWR Box at Gwaen Cae Gurwen (Known locally as GCG!) on the branch from Pantyfynnon. Note also the weather porch on the veranda and the fact the box is built over a ditch!
The picture was taken from an SLS railtour formed of a class 120 DMU.
