Unknown to the photographer, who was on a brief visit to the home area, Saturday 9th September 1967 was the last day of steam working in the North East. This quarter plate picture was taken on the morning of 9th September but unfortunately a faulty plate holder resulted in slight fogging to the left side of the image. Despite this, remedial work has allowed some restoration, of No 63387 passing Norton East with a down class H mixed freight. The engine was in clean condition thanks to the efforts of local enthusiasts but later that day, its fire was dropped for the last time.
