Penrhyndeudraeth , often known as Penrhyn , was located some fifteen miles from Barmouth and was the centre for Cooke's explosives factory, located just south of the station and which generated a substantial amount of freight traffic until the factory moved to the Conway Valley line. This view shows the little station to advantage , with 82020 heading up he line from Pwllheli towards Barmouth with the village itself being just out of the picture on the extreme right, although the church spire is just visible above the station buildings.
This working would have dropped down the severe gradient, at its steepest being one in fifty, from Minffordd before entering the station here and double heading of ascending workings over the Minffordd summit as far as Portmadoc was customary, with descending freight workings having to pin down brakes on unfitted wagons before they ran down to the station and nearby explosives factory.
