My research shows that this is most likely a "northbound " , or " up " working from Pwllheli heading down to Barmouth with Standard Class Three 82034 taking water here at Portmadoc in or about 1963 .
Taking water was a regular necessity for these Standard Class Three Tank locomotives which were restricted in their duties due to the limited capacity of their water tanks , their number on the Cambrian consequently being replaced by the larger " 80000 " class , the former ending their days at Patricoft in early 1965 when their service on the Cambrian network came to a close
