A rather bleak and deserted Afon Wen station looking eastwards towards Criccieth with the waters of Tremadoc Bay to the right , the station at this isolated and exposed sea level location owing its existence to the fact that it was the junction on the Cambrian line from Pwllheli to the west with the former L . M . S. line running down from Caernarvon to the north and the platform seen here for eastward bound services held the main station buildings , with a footbridge behind the cameraman , and this view shows the stock and freight siding on the right . Summer Saturdays in the ' fifties brought frequent and heavy passenger workings down from Caernarvon and locations to the north on the Midland line , with holidaymakers heading for Butlins at Pwllheli in addition to more distant resorts at Barmouth and Aberystwyth . 82000 seen here was one of the Standard Class Three locomotives which came to the Cambrian from the mid ' fifties replacing the little Dukedogs so long associated with these lines and their workings
