BR 3MT 2-6-2T No 82024 and N 2-6-0 No 31834 with an up ballast train from Meldon Quarry leaving Exeter St.Davids on 15 August 1960. The train was banked by a pair of Z 0-8-0Ts 30956 and 30955 see seperate photo.

Peter kerslake says "The heavily loaded ballast trains from Meldon Quarry at Okehampton were comprised of purpose built "Walrus" wagons each loaded to 40 tonnes with a limit of ten being worked together up the climb from Exeter St. Davids to Central station.
Additional banking and piloting regulations applied and it is no surprise, therefore, to have two bankers helping at the rear of this working in addition to 82024 as pilot. "
