LMS Patriot 4-6-0 No 45541 Duke of Sutherland at Carlisle Kingmoor shed in c1949. In very grimy condition in early BR days. Beneath all that grime it carries the LMS style lined black livery which was applied in Apr 1948 when the loco was renumbered. The cabside numbers are in the early 10'' pseudo LMS style with a purely LMS style serifed smokebox number. Later the cabside numbers were replaced with the standard smaller Gill sans style but retained this livery until Sep 1952.
