45511 1949 Whitmore
Patriot 4-6-0 No 45511 Isle of Man near Whitmore with a down express in c1949. 45511 had been renumbered in May 1949. It is still in wartime plain black and has a Gill Sans smokebox plate, and Gill Sans 8in. cab numbers. It was allocated to Crewe North from November 1948 until April 1950. The leading coach is of interest being a LMS livery Brake 3rd with reduced width brake portion, probably of LYR origin.
Ian R Townend says "The loco appears to be in grimy plain black livery which it probably received at its last HG in Oct 47. The tender appears to carry no insignia so presumed LMS painted out when renumbered in May 1949"
