LMS 5XP 4-6-0 No.5971 climbs towards Edwalton from Nottingham London Road Junction with the 1.34pm ex Nottingham Midland to St. Pancras on 18th June 1932. It had been transferred to Kentish Town from its first shed Holbeck during the previous month. The first two engines had entered service without smoke deflectors and they were fitted with flat plates which had rounded front corners and went straight down to the platform, probably during works visits in April/May 1932. They were replaced before 1934 with the modified type with an angled top which improved the smoke-lifting which had been introduced with the 1933 engines.
