5971 1930c Nottingham

LMS 5XP 4-6-0 No.5971 at Nottingham Midland in 1931 without smoke deflectors and unnamed but with the backing plates in position; the Croxteth name not restored until November 1933. The ex-Claughton wheels with large central bosses show up well as does the motion which was fluted throughout, and the long cylinder drain pipes. No.5971 has an ex-Compound flush riveted tender without coal rails and has the Derby 14in. stock numbers, and a ‘28’ Leeds Holbeck shedplate where it was allocated until May 1932.
