5916 1934c Nottingham

One of the ten 'Baby Scots' built at Derby in 1933, No.5916 E. Tootal Broadhurst entered service in March 1933. Although still with a 6ft. 3in. bogie, these had central bolsters, although they re-used the original L&NWR frames, axleboxes, wheels and spring gear. 5916 has the later angled style of deflectors, with rounded beading, and the ’open’ type of cylinder drain cocks. The cab window frames are polished brass and the stock numbers are the 14in. size used by Derby. The tender is the final type with coal rails and snap-head riveted tanks without ‘beading’. Photographed in early 1934 at Nottingham Midland, No.5916 became No.5525 in July 1934. Its ‘16’ shedplate shows that it was allocated to Kentish Town, where it remained until February 1935 when it was transferred to Bushbury.
