41310 1959c Faversham

Almost all the Ivatt 2-6-2Ts built for the Southern Region Eastern Section stayed at their first sheds for several years and some were only displaced when the Kent Coast electrification scheme came into operation; 41308-41312 were at Faversham until June 1959. They worked the Sheerness branch and local trains to Gillingham, Margate, Ramsgate, Dover, etc. as well as local freight duties. With the engine shed in the background 41310 arrives at Faversham on Duty 266 in the late 1950s - the third rail has been installed and colour light signals installed but not commissioned for the June 1959 electrification. The famous Shepherd Neame brewery is in the left background. Founded in 1698, it is Britain’s oldest brewery and today is still independent and operating from the same site at Faversham.
