41302 1963c Chilsworthy on Callington branch
With the extreme edge of West Dartmoor visible on the right, 41302 is on the short branch from Gunnislake to Callington, a line branching away at Bere Alston from the former Southern Region main line betwen Plymouth and Exeter running via Okehampton. Initiated as a mineral line in 1872 the line operated as a full passenger line from 1908 crossing the River Tamar at Calstock on a newly constructed viaduct and although the steeply graded section section between Gunnislake and Callington closed in 1966 the line from Bere Alston to Calstock and Gunnislake remains in service today, with commuters from Plymouth providing sufficient support, enhanced by holidaymakers and visitors to this historic area in the Summer months
