Ivatt ‘2MT’ 2-6-2T No.41223 alongside No.1 Signal Box at the east end of New Street was at Monument Lane from April 1955 until March 1956, when it was transferred to Ryecroft shed at Walsall. No.41223 was probably working one of the steam push-pull services introduced on 30th September 1954. These two-coach trains initially only ran to Sutton Coldfield but were extended to the next station of Four Oaks within a few weeks. They were replaced by the new diesel multiple unit service which ran through to Lichfield City from 5th March 1956.The Thompson full brake has been added onto the rear of the push-pull service.
Ed Purcell comments "I wonder why such an interesting vehicle was at the rear of a puch pull service? It was quite a new vehicle at the time."
