GWR 51XX 2-6-2T No 4117 with an ordinary stopping train at Exeter St.Thomas on 29 June 1958. Note that there is water cascading from an over-full tank, it must be decelerating roughly! Keith Ettle recalls full tanks of the Panniers being simialr and you could get you wet if not paying attention as there wasn't any thing to stop the spill coming off the rounded sides of the tanks. The 2-6-2T tanks extended upwards and stopped anything coming over.

In 1970 the train shed and station building on the up line were taken down and the station became an unstaffed halt.
