111 1910c Paddington

GWR 4-6-2 No.111 The Great Bear waits to leave Paddington with an express for Bristol in 1910. Churchward 4-4-2T County Tank No.2225 stands on the left. Peter Kerslake comments 'The Great Bear ar Platform 1 before it was later banned from that platform due to the limited clearances between the locomotive and the platform edge. Its length made it prone to derailing, epecially at Paddington, and in this picture the footsteps ahead of the cylinders have already been removed for clearance reasons. 111 had yet to be fitted with the water top feed piping, which was probably done during its 1913 heavy overhaul at Swindon'.
