11001 1952 Norwood Junction

11001 was deemed to be too high-geared for shunting work and too low-geared for main line running. It did not have electric marker lights and conventional oil lamps had to be used. It was the most powerful 0-6-0 diesel on BR producing 500hp compared with the 350hp of the LMS design which became the BR standard shunter.
