5946 1937-10-10 Crewe South MPD

Ex-London & North Western Railway Bowen Cooke 'Rebuilt Claughton' class 4-6-0 No. 5946 'Duke of Connaught'. Built at Crewe in July 1917 as L&NWR No. 2427, fitted with Caprotti valve gear and larger boiler c. 1928 and withdrawn in February 1941. Seen at Crewe South MPD in October 1937. The locomotive was named after Prince Arthur (1883-1938), the 3rd son of Queen Victoria.
