Michael Fox says "This shot can be dated between summer 1981 and 1984 i.e. between the closure of the Woodhead line and the diversion of its freight traffic to the Standedge route in July 1981, and the end of the Class '40s'. The train is the Holyhead RTZ to Humber refinery petroleum coke empties, identifiable from the distinctive wagons used".
