6002 1962-04-01 Swindon Works-ROS-2-159

For some unexplained reason it was decided in mid 1962 that 6002 , " King William IV " would be given an ovehaul at Swindon , notwithstanding the fact that inroads were already being made in condemning other members of the class , the first such casualty having been 6006 in the February of that same year.
Although not given new colours, 6002 looked in fine condition when she emerged from that overhaul in June 1962 but was sadly condemned just three months later in the September.
The engine's nameplate has been removed in this view from April of that year but work is in progress on the outside steam pipe and I wonder whether she was later moved into "A" Shop for completion of the overhaul ?
