3023 1905c Bath
GWR Dean 3031 class 4-2-2 No 3023 Swallow at Bath originally suggested to be in its last days c1911-12 (but read on).
Peter Kerslake says "3023 was the third of eight of its class converted from broad gauge to standard gauge between May and August 1892. Originally constructed with a 2-2-2 wheel arrangement the forerunners of the class were too heavy at the front end and following a derailment the first thirty were equipped with a front bogie on extended frames as shown in this view, with all later ones being built as 4-2-2s".
Ken Banwell adds " Suggest that it somewhat earlier than 1911 as another photo exists with bogie updated with snap rivets, a fender tender, two oil pipes on smoke box, small clack valves. As it has blade lamp brackets suggest, and no tender fill plates 1904-6. "
