Two-cylinder 4-4-2 No 179 emMagnet/em as built. It was renamed emQuentin Durward/em in March 1907. Bath - west end of the station taken from the Up side looking south. Apparently the houses immediately above the loco boiler are still there.br/ br/ Peter Kerslake adds quot;A rare and very early portrait of quot;Scottquot; class 179 here at Bath Spa station, the engine facing towards Bristol.br/ The original flush fitted quot;Magnetquot; nameplates shown were only carried by 179 from being newly built at Swindon in April of 1905 until she was renamed quot;Quentin Durwardquot; in March of 1907 when names from the novels of Sir Walter Scott were allocated to unnamed members of the class with a few being renamed, as in the case of 179.br/ Rebuilt into a member of the quot;Saintquot;class in August 1912 this locomotive was renumbered 2979 in December 1912, lasting in service until January 1951.quot;br/ br/ Photo: Rail Archive Stephenson
